Working

Why standardize

In order to reduce the cost of software developments and improve the interoperability with existing systems, the GEO Grid system utilizes standard technologies and protocols, such as Web services and the Grids. Earth observation data, such as satellite imagery, is a type of GIS data and its potential can be fully exploited through a synergy among other GIS data.

The most widely accepted standards are OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) specifications such as the Web-Mapping Service (WMS), the Web-Feature Service (WFS) and the Web-Coverage Service (WCS). GEO Grid adopts seamless combinations with OGC and Grid standards and comes up with developing new standards.
